Clothes for Transcendence’ is a series of photographs that document costumes made by Nicholas McArthur.
The artist’s unique clothing is a response to the hidden life of the city.
A fashion of abandoned factories, swampy viaducts and landfill sites.
A style for the rejected and lonely. Outfits that unite their wearers with the remote spaces they inhabit.
Collaborating with photographer Geo Kalev the images record these strange outfits, contextualizing them within neglected locations.
The photographs
capture the characters in everyday poses, moments of reflection and mystical freedom.
For these people, we can imagine that their dress is more significant than simple stylishness.
A Jacket covered with cheap jewellery, a ‘home-made’ gas mask and a patch-work dolphin head are part of their identity- offering them a means to transcend their broken surroundings.
Mini Art Festival
will present these photographs for the first time
accompanied by the models in full makeup and costume as featured in the work.
